Written by police K9 instructor and former Dog Sports contributing editor Stephen Mackenzie, this is the ideal book for a beginning or slightly less experienced decoy.
Focusing on the knowledge and skills necessary to become a skilled agitator, Mr. Mackenzie presents a clear and understandable guide to canine body language and aggression, as will as agitation techniques.
Decoys and Aggression Is more than just a police canine book; the principles and techniques outlined in this book are applicable to any type of protection training.
I would also recommend this book to any student of canine aggression such as the obedience instructor who must un-train overly aggressive pet dogs. Mr. Mackenzie s readable and accurate descriptions of canine (and human) body language and what motivates aggressive behavior make his book valuable to trainers in many fields.
Decoys and Aggression does not cover the teaching of specific exercises (i.e. the hold and bark). Instead, it teaches the decoy about the different types of aggression and how to provoke them, how the decoy s body language is perceived by the dog, how the decoy can control his body language, practice drills for the new decoy using a human helper rather than a dog, muzzle work, and much more.
If you train or handle dogs in protection, this book belongs on your shelf.
