The Science of Training
Recent years have shown a sharp rise in the effectiveness of dog training methods and the developments of far more effective ways to teach our dogs to be enjoyable companions. The reason? Dog trainers are no longer learning “training methods” first and foremost, they are studying how learning works. The result is better understanding and more effective training.
Learning and training is an art, but one firmly governed by science. If you’re frustrated with your inability to train your dog, or if you don’t understand the advice your obedience instructor is giving you, try learning about learning….it could make all the difference. Today’s savvy dog trainer comes armed not only with a canine behaviour manual, but with the knowledge of what makes a dolphin, a pigeon, a lama, or a human being learn and unlearn behaviors. Who knows, by training your dog, you may learn a little something about how to teach your kids!
